A delicate, evergreen shrub or small tree with a dense,
rounded crown and erect to ascending branches with
flat, fleshy, gray-green leaves and small yellow flowers,
both bunched near the branch tips. Larval host plant for mallow scrub-hairstreak
(Strymon istapa), martial scrub-hairstreak (Strymon martialis) butterflies.
Useful for coastal areas or saltwater canals.
