Prefers moist to wet soils; will tolerate standing water

Zones 5 to 11

 

A large, colonizing shrub with spreading branches;

with briefly deciduous, ornamental, shiny green leaves and

 round, fragrant, creamy-white flowers followed by

reddish brown balls of seeds.

May be pruned to maintain shape.

Useful as a littoral shrub and in wetland restoration areas.

Excellent butterfly attractor.
