Variable; to 20 feet

Fast rate of growth

Full sun to partial shade

Excellent salt and drought tolerance;

but prefers rich, moist acid soils

 

Large, multi-stemmed, dense shrub or small tree with evergreen, fragrant leaves.

Tiny flowers are followed by blue-green, fragrant, waxy berries on female plants;

the source of bayberry candles.

Useful as a privacy hedge.

Excellent wildlife attractor.
